Evaluation

For our media project, we were asked to make a opening title sequence for a made up film of our choice. Our film is called Traces, and it is a horror/pyschological thriller about a doctor with insomnia, which is a illness were the person who has it cant sleep. The doctor, fails at the operating table with a dieing women, and she returns to haunt him and in turn ruin his life which was already in tatters. Our film starts with the doctor struggling to sleep and seeing flashbacks from the operation. It then comes on to showing the morning routine of the doctor but this certain morning is different, with the ghost appearing in every corner he turns.

Our film, i feel, does not challenge the form and conventions of a typical horror film this is because it is similar to other mainstream horror films. Although it is a British film, i feel that it could be seen as Hollywood-style due to it most probably needing alot of special effects etc added to it.

I think that our film would appeal to most types of social groups rather than just aiming it at one. It would probably be avoided if certain viewers wanted a 'happy' film rather than one that is 'dark and depressing'.

I feel that Traces would be better suited to be distributed by a American media institution due to there being more money availible to make this film have what it needs to make it look stunning with effects.

The films rating is 15, so it is aimed at any person above that age that enjoy a good horror film.

We decided to attract our audience by using no music and very few sound effects, this adds suspense.

I have learnt alot about the time it takes to edit a film. We have a film thats around 2 minutes long, it makes you think about how long it takes to do a full-length film.

I have learnt about how much time and effort it takes to make a film. Aswell I think i can now use a digital camera to full effect and use a number of the tools on I-movie.

Decision on music

We have decided on having sound rather than music. We thought this will be more effective when put in at the vital moments of the film.

What's Next

Location: Flat in Dartford, with 2 bedrooms and is modern. We chose this flat as it sets the mood for the lonely doctor. Its sets the tone for a bachelor pad, and is ideal for a doctor living on his own.
Costume and props: The doctor's main costume is a suit, however he will also be wearing a white doctor's jacket, as this is associated with a doctor. He will also be wearing a name badge that we will be editing in final cut pro, to show the persons name and their position. Another prop will be a sleeping pill bottle which we will also be editing in final cut pro. We will also have a license plate that will have the name of the film (TR4C3S).
Characters: In our title sequence there is two characters, the doctor and the ghost (female).
I will be playing the doctor and Kirstie Houghton will be playing the ghost.
Music: We will hopefully have our music recorded by Ian Elmsley on the piano, It will be a bed time story as this relates to the situation of the film.
